let the tight thorax

abdomen and pelvis run their course

let the shoulders unspool Syriac

hymns, tendoned with the suffering

of Christ and Akiva, let the ankles fail,

let the knees buckle, let the dove drown

in distilled water, spilled on the living room

floor of the lake house
